Business DanishDanish education for the workplace… |
Background
The Danish society has use for the economic and human resources that immigrants and refugees bring with them, and they can be valuable assets for the workplace. At the same time, the workplace can create the framework so that everyone has access to the labour market and possibilities to get and hold a job.
Language and the lack of knowledge about the occupational culture, is the largest barrier for an ethnic employee while being integrated into the workplace.
The language centre, over a number of years, has had positive experiences with courses in occupational Danish, closely arranged with the individual workplaces wishes and needs.
Procedure
The courses have the advantage of taking place at the job site and beginning in the employee’s concrete working situation, together with the workplaces culture. The actual education will primarily take place on the foundation of authentic material from the workplace.
Before the occupational courses get under way, we will attend to the following procedures:
- We hold a non-committal meeting with the key person from the workplace for clarity on goal setting and expectations of the education.
- The language centre’s employee uncovers each participant’s language needs and competences.
- The language centre’s employee visits the workplace to form an impression of the production, the language of the workplace, the workplaces culture and to gather authentic material, which later will be used in the educational process.
- A suggestion of the educational plan is presented to the workplace, thereafter; the decision about the education will be set into action.
